Working together for a green, competitive and inclusive Europe

CLIMADAM - Adaptation strategy for climate change and mitigation activities for the Slovak-Ukrainian border region.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The project CLIMADAM benefits from an (amount – 462 243 €) grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EHP Grants. The project has been co-financed from the State Budget of the Slovak Republic in the amount of 15%.

The aim of the project is:

  • to better prepare the border regions of Ukraine and Slovakia for the expected climate change by developing an adaptation strategy for climate change for the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine and applying it (an adaptation strategy for KSK was created) within the pilot activities.
  • increase readiness for the introduction of effective measures in public transport for the city of Uzhhorod by developing a model of sustainable transport, using the experience of the Košice and Prešov regions
  • increase the availability of information on climate change, the need for measures to mitigate the negative impact of climate change and adaptation measures to expected climate change.

BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE EHP GRANTS:

The EEA Grants represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway towards a green, competitive and inclusive Europe. There are two overall objectives: reduction of economic and social disparities in Europe, and to strengthen bilateral relations between the donor countries and 15 EU countries in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltics.
The three donor countries cooperate closely with the EU through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). The donors have provided €3.3 billion through consecutive grant schemes between 1994 and 2014. For the period 2014-2021, the EEA Grants amount to €1.55 billion.

The priorities for this period are:
#1 Innovation, Research, Education and Competitiveness
#2 Social Inclusion, Youth Employment and Poverty Reduction
#3 Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy
#4 Culture, Civil Society, Good Governance and Fundamental Rights
#5 Justice and Home Affairs

The EEA Grants are jointly financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, whose contributions are based on their GDP.
Eligibility for the Grants mirror the criteria set for the EU Cohesion Fund aimed at member countries where the Gross National Income (GNI) per inhabitant is less than 90% of the EU average.

All projects are co-financed by the State Budget of the Slovak Republic in the amount of 15%.

This Facebook Page brings information about individual programs, about the possibilities of obtaining funds as well as about supported projects within the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism in Slovakia.

MORE DETAILS ON THE PROJECT:

Program area: GGC – Cross-border cooperation / Good governance, responsible institutions, transparency.

Final beneficiaries:

Thanks to the strategies, decision-makers at regional and local level will be prepared for the next steps. Strategic planning will provide an opportunity to respond systematically and more effectively to expected (but also current) climate change.
Researchers will receive new information from abroad (neighboring region). They can also provide analytical inputs to forthcoming documents and also have the opportunity to continue and develop research.
The general public will have the opportunity to participate in strategic planning and receive new information that can help them make decisions at the personal level (some types of adaptation are possible “at home”) and to influence decisions at the local level.

Program output: GGC_OTC3 – Improvement of SK-UA institutional cooperation

PROJECT ACTIVITIES:

  • Adaptation strategy and its application at the local level (AS for the Transcarpathian region and Local strategy for the Roňava river basin)
  • A model of sustainable transport for Uzhhorod using the experience of the Košice region
  • Dissemination of information on various aspects of adaptation to climate change and mitigation

PROJECT DURATION:

25.9.2020 – 30.4.2024

EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • Developed important strategic documents for the Transcarpathian region and the Košice region related to the topic of climate change
  • Transfer of know-how and best practices in the field of climate change adaptation and sustainable mobility;
  • Better availability of important information to the general public
