Almost half of the municipal waste produced in Slovakia still ends up in landfills. The existence of landfills causes increased dust, ecological and economic damage to the given location, soil, water and air pollution. Many regular initiatives of non-profit organizations dedicated to environmental protection respond to the problem of waste in rivers.

The organisation Save nature by Čivas organises regular cleanups of illegal garbage dumps in their free time. Dozens of volunteers are going to clean nature in the following locations:

Before the start of the season, the employees of the Children’s Railway walk through the Čermeľské údolí together with volunteers in order to collect waste. This location will be cleaned along the track in a 5 km section. As part of waste collection, volunteers will also be provided with a free train ticket.

The Slovak Fishing Club, in cooperation with the municipality of Zalužice, also organizes waste cleaning on the banks of the Zemplínská Šírava.
The beginning of the cleaning will be directly in the village of Zalužice, near the church. Location here.
Estimated end time of the event at 3:00 p.m. Volunteers are advised to bring any work gloves with them. Waste bags will be provided by the organizer and waste collection will be done by the village of Zalužice.
